4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound but some minor quibbles, July 8, 2011

I purchased the HT-SS380 at the store after realizing that the HT-SS370 had been discontinued. I assumed that since the systems shared a common look and nomenclature that they would have the same features (with the added 3-D functionality in the HT-SS380). I was wrong.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE HT-SS370 AND HT-SS380 SYSTEMS:
While the HT-SS380 does have 3-D capabilities, some other notable features are missing. The HT-SS370 had options for purchasing additional components in order to add wireless rear speaker capability. The HT-SS380 has no wireless expandability options. The HT-SS370 speakers came with wiring that featured proprietary connectors on one end for connecting to the receiver, but the speakers themselves featured standard wire clips, making them available to use with any other system that featured a standard clip design. The HT-SS380 speakers, on the other hand, still feature the proprietary clips on one end, but the other end is firmly connected to... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars HTSS38380, June 15, 2011
This review is from: Sony HTSS380 3D Home Theater System (Electronics)
Not bad for price. Beware speaker connectors are proprietary and the lengths included are not exactly generous, particularly for rear surround. good luck finding extensions from Sony - tried without success. i think it is 18 gauge but even Sony support could not confirm gauge but it is pretty darn thin and btw, the speakers are a bit on the cheap (1000 watts won't do you much good with cheap speakers) so you are mainly paying for the receiver.

Throughout the years I haven't been a huge fan of Sony products as they've always been overpriced in comparison to other companies that offer the same products with more features at a lower price...but after buying a refurb Sony 46" Bravia and this home theater system, I think my eyes have been opened!

Now sure the items are still a bit on the expensive side, but how amazingly well they "play nice" together is worth it (just like Apple products).

The sound is fantastic and the Bravia Sync is AMAZING as you just plug in the HDMI cables and it's completely set up with the TV recognizing that you'll be using the sound system for sound instead of the TV speakers with a lot more beyond that!

Even when it comes to my PS3 it rocks as both the TV & Sound system remotes work with the PS3's DVD/Blu Ray playing functions, so it eliminated the need for me to buy a seperate Harmony remote piece just to get it to work (I might even sell my Harmony remote all... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, attractive - Very Pleased, November 20, 2011
This review is from: VIZIO VHT215 Home Theater Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer (Electronics)
Okay - 1st review of this. I bought it without reading any reviews, just knowing it was their latest and greatest. Not disappointed. Just purchased an LG 47LV5400 (excellent value as well) and wanted something more than factory sound, without the complication and ire of my wife that comes with a complete A/V system. Bottom line is this is a wonderful 'add' that takes a gorgeous TV like LG's and brings it to life. Make the factory speakers seem defective. If you are just looking to add some excellent sound to a TV - this is it. I have it set up in a 12x12 room and the sub rocks. I mean in ways that I never expected a wireless sub to perform. I do have a full blown A/V set-up in another room, and I'm not suggesting this in any way performs like a powered 15" Paradigm - but - for what it is, very impressed. It's worth noting that most newer TV's (including my new LG) that have an optical audio out, it is not a VARIABLE optical out. (Regardless of what the brain-dead guy at LG... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait Is Over, December 9, 2011
This review is from: VIZIO VHT215 Home Theater Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer (Electronics)
If you have been waiting for someone to take the average sound bar to the next level well, wait no more. VIZIO has done it with the VHT 215. Just one HDMI connection to your HDTV and your all set. If your looking for a vast improvement over your average HDTV speakers but you really didn't want to get into a big sound system with speakers all over the place and/or an additional receiver setting somewhere then this is the one. I wanted to add a little more bass to my HDTV and this has worked out terrific. The controls are easy to use, the directions are easy to understand, the installation is easy to do. So don't wait any longer you won't be disappointed. And buy the way I have not seen any firmware issue with this but if you don't connect the system to the right HDMI connection (ARC) on your HDTV I do believe it could create the issue another person has described.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sounds Great but HDMI does not work, December 3, 2011
This review is from: VIZIO VHT215 Home Theater Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer (Electronics)
Sounds great when it works, I might have got a defective unit, but I'm not going to try another one. Used HDMI connection, but it would work only once in a while, every time I turned it off and back on sound would not work. I would have to keep restarting it until it would finally work. Switched to analog and it works and sounds great, but that defeats the whole purpose of getting this sound bar. VIZIO needs to figure out its firmware issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great system!! :D, July 5, 2011

I did a lot of research looking at multiple surround sound systems and I'm very glad I chose this one. The surround sound and picture quality are great, the FM receiver works well (you'll just need to make sure the antenna is extended up as far as possible to help pick up the weaker stations), and it comes loaded with several different options for listening to music and watching movies/videos via the internet (i.e. Pandora and Netflix, just to name two) which work great. The set up was very easy (it comes with a DVD that I didn't even use), the speaker wires are all color coded so you easily connect the correct speaker to the correct wire to the correct plug on the back of the base unit. The only problem I had with the wires is that the ones for the two rear speakers were about 15 feet too short for the way I wanted to place them. I just bought a 75 foot coil of speaker wire from Walmart for $15 which I then cut and spliced onto the existing wire so I could run them down through... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Great Price, September 21, 2011

Ok, I read a lot of reviews on this product, and I understand where most people are coming from when they write these reviews. Ill break it down to my key points to keep it short.

- I linked this system to my Sony Bravia TV. It worked perfectly and took me less than 15 minutes to install. If your in the military and live in Germany, this product is dual voltage and does not require a transformer.

- I didnt have to use customer service because I have a brain and I used it to troubleshoot. I hear tons of complaints about Sony's customer service. Unless the product is broken in half, you probably just need to read the manual. It isnt that hard, either that or you arent that smart. Its 2011, this is technology, get used to it.

- I bought this to hook up my PS3 and XBOX - the two ports in the back of the system were perfect for this. If you need more ports then buy a multi hdmi out. Its not expensive and quit being lazy. Honestly.

- Overall ive... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice but can't easily be integrated with other components, July 26, 2011

Pat (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony BDV-E580 Blu-Ray Disc Player Home Entertainment System (Black) (Electronics)
Do NOT get this if you have any desires for a ONE remote system. Was hoping this system would be easier to use but am disappointed.

Only get this if you're going to use it for BluRay and normally when watching tv,cable, or sat, you'll just use the tv's speakers. Otherwise it's annoying to be dealing with multiple remotes to get everything set to the correct input.

1) This system doesn't offer discrete input codes (remote doesn't have any and Logitech (our beloved remote) doesn't show any). What this means is that to go from TV to BluRay, or vice versa, you need to push a button called "function" over and over again to loop through all the inputs (tv,cable/sat,fm,hdmi1,hdmi2) . Extremely annoying and very slow. Even worse, there's no onscreen display of what input it's on. And when switching through fm, since we don't use fm, we were rewarded with very loud hiss. Only on the unit itself is there a tiny display, but that display is facing UP! So you can't... Read more
